Personal prevention implies that of the Community

On the occasion of the celebration of World AIDS Day, Research and Formation Centre, CeRFA, in collaboration with the Maisha Centre (Let's Talk AIDS) of the Jesuits, organized a conference on the theme "Awareness Day on Sexually Transmitted Diseases" to raise awareness among all young people in the different parishes of the city of Kisangani about the dangers of these diseases for their lives and their future.

Indeed, to achieve this objective, the centre called on the two doctors, namely: Dr Junior MTORO, Assistant at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kisangani and at the same time Physician at the University Clinic and the Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital of Kisangani; and Dr Demagel GELENGI, Assistant at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kisangani and Physician at the Tshopo Reference Hospital.

In their messages, the speakers presented the general knowledge of these diseases and highlighted the complications and damage caused by these sexually transmitted diseases, STDs or sexually transmitted infections, STIs. The latter also recommended to young people: "Education must lead to behaviour change, because prevention at the individual level also allows prevention at the community level". A call to all young people to go in turn to sensitize their relatives to avoid early sexual activities and multiple sexual partners, which requires sexual abstinence and fidelity. It was a great joy for us to see so many young people responding positively to this call and we believe that this day was beneficial for all.
