Bibwa : Notre Dame du Bon Secours Parish
(Diocese of Kinshasa)
"In August 2001, a new parish was started in Bibwa, on the eastern outskirts of Kinshasa, 10 km from N'Djili airport." Bibwa is part of "the extension of the capital eastwards to N'Sele through Mpasa, Kinkole, and the Plateau de Bateke. With an annual growth rate of 4.5%, there can be no doubt that the capital city now has a population of nearly 15 million."

"According to the district office, Bibwa has 3,720 inhabitants. But every day we see new arrivals. It was on "February 16, 1992, that the Christians met for the first time in the branched chapel they had just built. On the following Sunday Fr. Roger Dangreau (Scheutist), from St. Jacques, de Kinkole parish, blessed this place of prayer and for the first time celebrated the Eucharist there. He will give the necessary funds for the construction of a school complex of 6 rooms. In 1998 Fr. Palmiro Cima, a Xaverian missionary, parish priest of St. Angela Parish, will visit the community of Bibwa and invite other priests for Sunday prayer. Eliseo Tacchella, a Comboni Missionary and Fr. Robert Witwicki, a Marianist.

In 1999 the Comboni Missionaries were entrusted with the pastoral assistance of the Bibwa region. On 22nd October of the following year, Auxiliary Bishop Landu presented Fr. Antonio Aparicio Cardoso to the faithful as the first parish priest of the new parish, Our Lady of Good Help. On 1st October 2001 Fr. Benito Amonini was assigned to the new community of Bibwa. Important work will begin. First of all for the construction of the large Our Lady of Good Help school complex, which will open its doors at the beginning of the 2002-2003 school year with 580 pupils in the primary school classes and 180 in the secondary, commercial section. The following year the pedagogical section was added. Then, the church and the parsonage were built. The parish of Maccio in the diocese of Como, through the parish priest Fr. Savoldelli, and the Italian Foundation "Fossati", gave a lot of help. Thanks to the help of the Ghielmi family, several wells have been drilled, because the problem of pure water for drinking is very serious in the area. In the branch chapel of Wungu, a medical centre has been built with the help of APARF (Portuguese Association of Friends of Raoul Follereau). At present, the community is composed of four priests :

P. Farronato Elio, superior
P. Mabuluki Nickel, bursar
P. Sagasti Francisco Javier, parish priest
P. Germain Fazili, in charge of Propaedeutics
